It’s time to put those New Year’s resolutions to the test—specifically that one about eating healthier. Luckily, this dietary improvement doesn’t requiry eating a salad every afternoon for the next 12 months. The Cool Greens smoothie recipe from Simple Green Smoothies ($17; is an easy and delicious way to fulfill that 2016 goal. Authors Jen Hansard and Jadah Sellner suggest sipping the drink for breakfast: "Loading our bodies with fruits and veggies from the get-go fuels us for the day ahead and helps us start out on the right (healthy) foot,” they write. Cool Greens

Serves 2


1 cup kale, stems removed

1 cup dandelion greens

¼ cup cilantro, stems removed

2 cups water

1 celery rib

2 ripe pears, halved and cored

1 piece (½”) fresh ginger, peeled

Juice of 1 lemon


1. Blend the kale, dandelion greens, cilantro, and water until smooth.

2. Add the celery, pears, ginger, and lemon juice and blend again.
