Though they have decidedly different aesthetics, Bulgari and Buccellati are classic Italian brands that have broad appeal in the United States. Pomellato’s signature chains are evergreen favorites because they work with so many different styles, and the wide-ranging work of Marina B continues to find new audiences. Virtually anything by Bulgari has cult status in the US, but particularly pieces that highlight their tremendous color sense and use of cabochon stones. We find that our customers look for the more unusual pieces, but you can’t go wrong with the classic Tubogas styles. Also, the strong aesthetic of Marina B is being rediscovered by a new generation of collectors. They love her statement earrings and the versatility of her beaded necklaces. Collectors love Italian jewelry for its expert craftmanship and its eye-catching designs but also for its sense of fun. It’s serious jewelry meant to enjoyed. Italian craftsmanship is renowned throughout the world. The best Italian jewelry is noted for its exceptional gold work, vibrant design and most particularly for its deft use of colored stones. I personally love Bulgari and am always looking for exceptional examples of their early work. We recently had a spectacular piece from the Retro era – a rose gold buckle bracelet accented with diamonds and rubies – a rare and iconic piece from the 1940s. We have been fortunate to handle many unusual and rare pieces. Currently we have a pair of gem-set Mamma Pesce earrings from Bulgari’s Animalia Collection (a similar pair was featured in the 2010 Bulgari retrospective at the Grand Palais and is included in the accompanying book) as well as an exceptional pair of Marina B Cuf earrings that are illustrated in the definitive book about her work.
